Flat Feet

Flat feet occur when the arches of the feet are lower than normal or collapse during standing and walking. While some people experience no symptoms, others develop pain in the feet, ankles, knees or even the lower back due to altered foot function.

Understanding how your feet move is the first step towards finding the most appropriate treatment.

Why do flat feet cause problems?

When the arch collapses excessively, additional strain can be placed on muscles, tendons and joints throughout the foot and lower limb. This may contribute to heel pain, tendon problems, shin pain or general fatigue after standing or walking.

Our assessment identifies how your foot structure affects the way you move.

Managing flat feet

Treatment depends on the severity of your symptoms and may include footwear advice, stretching exercises and bespoke orthotics designed to support the foot and improve function.

Many patients experience significant improvements in comfort and mobility once the underlying cause has been addressed.
